ARTIST BIO
Florencia Lewkow (b. San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Málaga, Spain. With a background spanning over two decades in graphic design, advertising, and editorial design, her practice unites a rigorous command of spatial composition with large-scale, visceral oil painting. Grounded in material sensitivity and an incandescent palette, her work explores the silent tension between presence and absence, fusing artistic intuition with a trained visual discipline. Influenced by the psychological deconstruction of figures present in contemporary painting, Lewkow's practice combines raw abstraction with a renewed perspective, creating a meeting point between contemporary art, cultural syncretism, and poetic deconstruction.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"Between the abstract and the figure exists an instant: the territory where I dwell. My painting explores the frontier where the body and the environment strip away the descriptive to mutate into pure emotional charge. Through oil and large-scale format, I investigate the ephemeral quality of presence through an intuitive speed that overrides over-deliberation, allowing the work to happen viscerally.
Upon the canvas I find my freedom. From this crossroads I raise an unapologetic gaze that claims vulnerability as power. It is a perspective crossed by a vital syncretism—where Latin and European cultures converge—fused into an incandescent palette of burning oranges, deep earth tones, and high contrasts, conceiving the body not as a fixed identity, but as a territory in transit".
